Born in Germany, I grew up in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, returning to Germany in my late teens.
I studied economics, computer science and architecture, financing my studies in a large part by visualizing scientific processes in a German research institute and by developing and drawing concepts and storyboards for movies, music videos and commercials.
In 2000/2001, while working on my diploma in architecture, I bought a digital point & shoot camera to document my work in progress. It was with this camera that my passion for photography was ignited – which is the point of departure for my most recent work.
I am currently based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
A Statement of Sorts
Human life is mostly tragic – a tragedy that is often caused & deepend by other humans with tragic lifes. Due to my upbringing this harsh reality hit me early in life – too early to handle it well – turning my interest towards science and abstract ideas for moral support.
The antithesis did not emerge before 2008-2009, when I visited the workshops of two iconic documentary photographers: David Alan Harvey and Antonin Kratochvil.
With their guidance and by showing me their world, I not only found a way to include the human element into my work, I also became so fascinated by this aspect, that I seriously considered redefining myself as a documentary photographer, to work for the humanistic cause.
In 2010 a health set-back gave me the time and distance to reevaluate.
This leads me now to storytelling with a focus on the human aspect – be it general or individual. I am not interested in a signature style or technique, instead I use whatever I think best in a specific situation and for a specific story.
