Nothing ever is in vain

I took this image as part of a series in 2009 while Tone and I visited the small town of Lobo in Texas. It was totally out of fun. I wanted to see if I could get a U2 kinda feeling into them … Maybe because I was a bit tired to listen to Graceland Radio throughout the day.

It gave birth to an idea, Overtone, which I am working on since then.

There is nothing like playing around a bit to make you happy!

Overtone

Overtone is getting darker. I have a lot on my list. Moving forward slowly but steadily.

Overtone

I have been asked several times, what the project “Overtone” is all about, that is listed without a link in my Work In Progress section.

“Overtone” is a project about a guitarrist/ a band. It is as much about dreams, as it is about “the market” that commercializes these dreams. It is very much about … today. It deals with the question of how success and failure can be defined within the smaller frame of an individual person as within the larger picture of today’s westener society. And with this I think it touches a theme that most of us are to a certain level familiar with. I certainly am.

The idea for “Overtone” sprang at me while I was in Texas last September working on “Pink Lobo”. In between shooting sessions I did some pictures of Tony with his new old Gibson guitar, more as a favor, really, but through this favor and the observation of what music and the act of playing can do to a person, I have started to observe this scene that I have never been too much into, since my day to day world resides in silence rather than in music.

With “Overtone” a door to a new room has opened up some inches for me. A room so big that I decided to postpone the intensive shooting for this project into next year, feeling that I have to do so much more research before starting, so I can get this right.

Music Pics II

Continuation from the last post …

So the next day we went the 15 or so miles south to find Lobo, the small ghost town, that was bought by a couple of friends of us. I will put some more pictures about the place up separately, but, besides that I was not expecting so much green stuff growing there, where I hoped to see dry dust and tumbleweeds, it was pretty much as I dreamed of. Rattlesnakes and wild boars included.

Ok now, where to start with our pseudo MTV images??
What about the pseudo empty swimming pool?

Yeeeahh … easy for a start. Good to warm up, and probably the best & most graphical pictures we would get, as there was too much greeny stuff all over the place everywhere else.

Music Pics I

After I linked some pictures to a comment in BURN a couple of days ago, I did get several emails of curious people wanting to see some more images.
So … why not?

I would not swear on it – my memory is just not trustworthy – but I think this is the first time I did pictures around the music theme.

Tony has asked me to do some photographs of him playing the guitar he had just found in a north Texas pawn shop, to maybe help him convince his old band mates to get their hands on their instruments again. Nothing too serious but at the same time something to trigger memories, emotions and maybe some smiles. Yeah, and he told me about these memories and emotions and a lot of beautiful kitsch and cliché while he was sitting there playing the guitar in the motel room, the door wide open and a (still) sunny day outside.

The next day we would go to Lobo, the old ghost town, to take some more pictures. I just hoped we would find a fitting scenario.
